How to get a cheap willCheap means a lot of different things. It could mean good value. I think Oliver's Wills offers exceedingly good value for the service we provide. We just couldn't offer our service any cheaper. For our pricing, click here.
Cheap could mean at very low cost - which might be in the £20 - £30 bracket. These tend to be do it yourself will packs or online services where you get a standard layout with little advice or support. The person taking out the service needs to read the instructions very carefully to make sure they tick the right boxes, or get the will signed as it needs to be. This can be confusing! Cheap will also often mean that you have no support or are unable to take action against the person or company creating a will. Because you have created a will yourself, or with minimal help, you could find that a will which is not drawn up correctly simply fails, and the people who were to receive gifts may lose them. If this happens with a professional will writer, you should have indemnity insurance to make sure gifts are correctly given. Cheap can therefore be a very bad idea. You really do get what you pay for usually. Saying that, you can still find companies offering a service at good value, which is what Oliver's Wills aims to provide. So if you want good value, with the backing of the IPW, and indemnity insurance to ensure your gifts will happen, choose us! If a will is badly drawn up, it could mean that there are tax implications. Because a well drafted will can help solve some tax issues, the beneficiaries may decide to get the will changed (yes, this can be done if all beneficiaries agree following the death). This is costly however (above £1,000 for all the legal advice etc) and it would be better to get it right first time. Professional will writers will have indemnity insurance to cover issues such as badly drafted wills. So it will make sense to get it right first time. As a professional will writer, I can still fully understand why people would like to draft a will themselves, as it is not always about trying to save money - it can be like growing your own vegetables! It just tastes nice when you do it yourself! Just be careful, but above all check out your will writer's credentials if you use a cheap will writer - paying money to get a bad will is just the worst option. |
Please see an important update at the bottom of the page if you want a really cheap will!Video link willsA trend that has been with us for some time, but that has stayed relatively small, is video meetings. The technology has certainly taken a while to get perfected, but it is possible to hold good quality meetings now over the internet.
Oliver's Wills is now using video wills as a way to offer clients cheaper wills, because for one thing, it saves us the petrol to see our clients, which is one of our major costs. This is one of the reasons will writers tend to stay localised. Taking instructions will be exactly the same as a face to face meeting but over a video link, so if you feel this might be suitable for you, we can offer the same professionally drawn up will from an IPW full member for 25% less than normal - i.e. a single will shall cost £105 and a double will £150. Please contact us for a pre-meeting questionnaire so we can confirm this should be suitable for you, and see our video page. Pricing is subject to vat. |
A different approach - group work schemes
One further point to raise is group will schemes. This can reduce the costs of a will by a good amount, as a company with a reasonable number of employees will save the will writer time and effort on marketing. Oliver's Wills offer small to large organisations discounted wills, as well as free organisational software from Data Organiser Ltd. Please contact us more details or see our Group Wills page. If you would like your employer to offer a group scheme, it will cost them nothing and save you money. Please ask them to get in touch or else give us their details and we can call them.
